We have a Toro MP5800 that cannot seem to get them booms to shut off completely.

It was suggested by our distributor to tighten the 4 bolts that hold the solenoid and piston together to help seat the piston tighter.

We tried that a few weeks ago with decent success. Sprayed our application and everything seemed to be fine. Booms would shut off with minimal leakage (compared to previous).

Getting the unit ready to spray yesterday and the saw the pistons are not closing worse than before tightening the bolts.

I am quite certain this issue has been around since we purchased the machine back in the fall of 2012.

We recently changed to a smaller flow nozzle which intensifies a drip from a larger nozzle into looking like the nozzle is almost on.

We have pulled apart the pistons, cleaned them (the and the seat looked brand new), etc, etc, to no avail.

We have a call into our distributor but was hoping someone else has had this issue and has been able to successfully repair it.

    Thanks in advance!

We had the same issue with our new 5800, and it was debris in the manifold. Pulled everything apart and cleaned it and havent had a problem since. There was an update to a newer style manifold/valve control system, check and make sure yours has been updated. I'm not sure of the year but there are support plates for mounting and couple other things done to the update that I do not remember off-hand. Hope this helps.

    Regards,

There were 2 orings side by side in one groove on the boom manifold valve pistons when that machine first came out. There is too much friction with both of them installed and the piston can't seat completely. Remove 1 oring and it should work fine. Ours did.

    Thanks guys!

Confirmed today there is an upgrade for our valves and our distributor will be replacing soon.

I knew of and had asked about this upgrade a few times over the years but was told there was 'none we know of.'

Just glad the issue will be resolved soon.

    Thanks again!
