We have a 2003 Toro 6500D with about 4700 hrs on it (yes time for the scrap yard). The problem probably really started mid season with mower over heating at times and now has ended with mower bogging down(loss of hp). Had an outside mechanic look at it he ended up replacing the first fuel injector we ran the mower today and it ran fine for the first 2 hours and then started bogging down again. Also white smoke coming out of exhaust. The good part of this story is I was able to purchase a newer mower on Monday and was planning on using the Toro as a backup or sometimes to assist in mowing. Any ideas or just scrap it. Thanks again

My tech said you either cracked a cylinder wall into the water jacket or blew a head gasket by overheating it this summer. The white smoke may actually be steam from the coolant entering the cylinder. The lack of HP is from a lack of compression due to blow by. If it's the head gasket, easy fix. If you have a hole in the cylinder wall, it's done.

I have a few 6500's, all with 6,000+ hours and still run great!

Sounds like the same exact issue here. Insufficient fuel was our problem. Replaced the fuel line from engine to tank including filters. Eliminate all possible air entry points. Runs like new.

We had the same issues. Change fuel filter then all good. But now we are changing fuel filters every couple of weeks. We run half throttle and it seems ok. We will be pulling the fuel tank to clean and replacing all fuel lines this winter.
