We have two 5410 fairway mowers with groomers both with close to 1400hrs and they seem to be mowing slower than normal, in-fact transport speed also seems slower. Mow pedals are set at 7 mph and it seems to be more like 5 mph while mowing. Could something be starting to go bad or could there be some adjustments out of whack? Could the groomers be putting a lot of wear on the hydraulics over time and causing hydraulic pump issues? Your advice is greatly appreciated.

We have two 5510's that both have had major wheel motor and pump issues. Both, fortunately, have been covered under warranty and both our vendor and Toro have done an excellent job stepping up with the repairs with no questions asked. Both machines were a little over one year old when we first started noticing the same issue you did. Was worse in mow than transport, and way worse when trying to go up a hill. The first one had to be winched on the truck for repair.

Since having the first issue, I've talked to several other mechanics and Superintendents that have stated they have had the same issues. Each time Toro has covered under warranty. Seems to have been a bad batch of wheel motors, but not sure.

    Hope this helps.

Is your early detection system not turned on?

Even the finest wear particles cant hide from elemental analysis. Particle types can help pinpoint failures long before they become LARGE issues. Even/especially hydraulic systems can benefit from oil analysis.

Save one hydraulic system and you could pay for a lifetime of lube oil analysis for an entire fleet... just sayin'

One thing I'd check is the traction cable, I had one wear and cause the cable to bend slightly to prevent it from moving it's full travel.
