I'm having issues with my toro 4000 rough mower. When trying to go in reverse sometimes the mower will go in reverse with no problem and move at a decent speed. Sometimes it will then slow to a crawl. Most times when the pedal is pressed the mower will barely move in reverse and on a slight incline the mower won't move.
    Any thoughts??

At the end of the traction pedal linkage check the servo control shaft for wear. The servo control valve is located on the piston pump assembly.

Not sure if this will help. Our 4000 had a reverse problem a few years back. There is a hydraulic block located under the radiator. There is a few check valves in the block you can turn out. Each check valve has 3-4 o-rings on them. In our case the one check valve, facing the rear of the machine, had two bad o-rings on it. Problem fixed with new o-rings. Not sure if I would have ever found this without the help of the service department at MTI Distributing.

    Hope this helps

I also replaced the o rings in the check valves located beneath the radiator. A very simple fix that solved all of our issues.
