We have a Toro 3150 with 1542 hours (four seasons) with the 11 bladed DPA reels.

We tore them down for the first time to replace the bearings in them and they actually still look good, grease is good ect. We think with the new bearings, this might carry us through until we need to replace the reels themselves, but we were wondering how much of the reel we have actually used so far. We only grind them once in the winter and they might get back-lapped maybe twice a month if we're lucky, so we might not have used much of the reel. Just curious. Also interested in feedback to how long everyone else is seeing reel and bearing life on these or other triplex reels?

    Thanks, Mel

Get a pi tape to measure the reels. They start new at 5" and are done when they get to 4.5 ". We replace our reels at 4.7 to keep everything consistent but it may not be necessary in your situation.

This is an upgrade kit but you can buy just the pi tape.

I just recently looked this up. End of service life is 4.5".

Remember the lower you go the less of the reel you actually get to use. Due to our HOC range, we are in the same boat as, Bret mid 4.7's on the tape and they are out. Fairways are mid 46's.
