Top 3 culprits: weak battery, sand in the joystick switch, sticking relay. Even it the "raise" relay/solenoid is working properly, the "lower" relay/solenoid may be "pushing" the reels down while trying to raise them at the same time.

If your battery is down, charge and load test it. Also a quick test would be to put a jump pack on your battery and if it raises you know right away its and electrical issue. If your battery is good, or it works with the jump pack then check the charging system of the machine. You could have a bad voltage regulator/rectifier. I have had a number of them go bad as they are located close to the exhaust. If you don't see any burned or bad wires, check your output of the stader before replacing. In most case the stader is fine, and it's just a simple regulator replacement.

    Regards,

Looks like a bad valve solenoid

Thanks for the update. Since we're on the subject, one of the neatest tricks I learned years ago to do a quick check on a solenoid is to hold a small wrench 1/4" above it. When energized, it will pull the wrench down to it and release it when de-energized. If not, then pull the connector off and check for 12v. I label them so I can do those quick checks in the field. Just passing that one along. Glad to hear you've pinpointed the problem.

Yes, I check my irrigation solenoids, hook up a 24v battery to a charger, connect the wires from the solenoid to the posts, and see if it will hold a screwdriver on the magnet.

The solenoid was actually energized, however when talking to the tech at toro he said it could be magnetized and be misfunctioning, with a bench test we were able to determine it was in fact bad.

Still waiting for a solenoid valve from toro...sitting here twiddling thumbs and whistling for 2 days now...
