We had pin holes that developed in our pump on the 2 year old, 880 hours of use, Toro 1750 sprayer. It looks to me like cavitation has worn the inside metal in the heads to the point that it wore a hole in the heads. Has anyone had any problems like this yet? This pump is a monster piece of metal and costs about $3700 to replace.

    Hey Todd-
We've had issues with the 1750 pump. The first 1750 we purchased was about 5 years ago, and the cast heads would get eaten away, causing pump failure. Like clockwork, happened about every 600 hours. We were able to get our local distributor to warranty it. And we always went beyond the triple rinsing/cleaning thing. Purchased an additional year of warranty based on that.
Bought another 1750 last year and got rid of the old one because I think Toro had changed the heads, but guess what- same thing happened.
There was a post on the Facebook GCM page last year asking the same question that you posed, and as I recall, there were a few others that experienced the same thing that you are going through.

Is there no way to put a simple centrifugal pump on those sprayers? I've had a Jake with over 4000 hours on it, dumped everything known to man into it and never had an issue. And never once washed it out at days end

Hardi had some pump problems. You need to contact your Hardi dealer or Toro dealer. I think the problems and solutions were discussed on Golftechs Forum or the former IGCEMA Forum (which is now part of the GCSAA). Try to order a new pump with the part no. on your pump. You will find out the pump number has changed.

If you don't want to buy another Hardi pump, Ken Rost from Frost Services in Minnesota can help you out with a pump from another manufacturer. Frost Services was mainly in the Ag market. Ken is now making his way around turf shows taking the best ideas in Ag and using those in the turfgrass spray industry.

Not that unusual for a greens sprayer when you are using a lot of fert, maybe iron and other ferrous corrosive products. We used to experience the same issue when we were using a cast iron Hypro on our line of sprayers. We switched to an all stainless steel (nylon impeller only) Hypro 10-12 years ago and this issue disappeared for our products line.

Check out the Hardi website. There should be a tag on the pump that should give some information for reference.

I had trouble with a dual piston pump that I had and Rudy in Hardi service (877-311-6121) was great at diagnosing my problem and gave me information that I could not get from Toro Service. You can also order replacement parts for your pump directly from Hardi. I see that there is also an updated version of a six diaphram pump on their website. Possibly the heads have been redesigned.
