We need to buy some new small tools soon and I've always chosen Stihl. What are peoples thoughts on Echo and Shindaiwa? I've heard the Shindaiwa are more industrial than the Echo? Our local supplier (residential) has made the suggestion stating that the Shindaiwa are a much improved product from previous years. Thanks

I have always bought Stihl, but when arriving here at the city, they have been buying Shindaiwa's and we have had really good success with them. We have 3 that are about 9 years old and just now starting to really have some issues. Of course our 9 years work load probably is maybe 4 for other people.

I do know that the 4 cycle ones that came out about 6 years ago haven't held up for some of our other city courses, but I'm not sure at their use levels compared to ours.

We have all Echo for weedeaters and blowers (backpack and hand blower). Some of these units are 10+ yrs old, very durable!! I really don't think you can go wrong on any of them, take care of them and they take care of you. It all comes back to dealer support as well!

our guys find that they can actually start an echo. The stihls we've had over the years become very tempermental and don't stay running consistently, no mater what the mechanics do to them. I'll stick with buying echo equipment from now on.

I have no chips in the game when it comes to Shindaiwa but I do with the other two. I bought two echo's and two stihl weedeaters two years ago. The stihl's are running stronger and have had way fewer problems then the echo's. The main point I was going to point out was the same as Andrew's. Dealer support and warranty are the main reasons I will buy more stihl's and won't buy any more echo's.
