I was thinking about getting a press for replacing roller bearings and other misc. use. Any recommendations or opinions are appreciated.
    Thank you

I have purchased three units before from, Northern Tool & equipment. A 20 ton shop press will run you $340.00
The prices go up from there for the more fancy units with the pressure gauges, or you can even go with a smaller unit starting around $150.00. I would recommend the 20 ton, for the price it's a very good deal. Three shops I have had setup with the 20, and the last place I was at we had a 40 ton, maybe a bit overkill. Northern or Harbor Freight, will get you the best price. Napa, Snap-on, Mac, they all sell them but your paying for the name. I have never had any issues with the ones from Northern Tool.

I'm not aware of a Northern, but we do have a Harbor Freight Tools here in Stockton, and they run ad inserts in every Sunday paper. Their pricies are incredible, at least in the ads they run. I had never been in the store before (not in the best part of town), but happened to be close by a couple weeks ago, so I stopped in. I went up and down every single aisle and could not believe their prices. Then I started checking the packaging a little closer.

Now I know why their prices are so good. EVERYTHING I checked was made in CHINA.

I'm guessing you don't shop at WalMart then.

You guessed correctly. I haven't been to a Wal-Mart in probably 10 years, when they opened a "Superstore" literally across the street from a beat up old one that they then closed down. I have decided to never shop there again, but not so much due to Chinese-made stuff. Mainly it was because the last time I went there, as my wife and I were walking up and down the aisles, it was apparent that we were the richest couple in the store.

It was crazy scary. Everyone there was in pajamas and fuzzy slippers - at about 2 PM! Serious. I can't stand the place.

I wouldn't buy their hand tools for my use, but something as large as a press, yes, for the price. It's simply foolish to pay 1,100 to 1,800 dollars for a press when I can get one from them for $300.00 or $400.00. that I know will do the same exact job, and hold up.

I personally feel that Northern is of a much better quality than that of Harbor Freight, and roughly the same pricing structure.
