We started punching our greens with our ProCore with 1/2" side ejects on 2.5" spacing at a depth of 3" and had some pretty bad plucking. We've gone at the same depth and spacing with top ejects with no problems. First time we've tried side ejects on this machine so I'm wondering if that's the issue or if maybe the timing is off. Any help would be great.

Are you running double row on the 3/8-mount tine blocks? I gave up trying to pull larger cores with the double row setup because I couldn't get the depth I wanted without tearing turf between the tines. We now install one row and just slow it down.
You might try playing around with engine speed...setting the RPM between 3000-3100 on our Pro Core has greatly improved the hole quality for us.

If you're using the longer side-ejects to get 3", that's the issue... played with it before and couldn't back off on the spacing enough without sacrificing the displacement more than I wanted... We use the shorter 4.5" tine to get 2.25" of depth at the 2" spacing setting, with the mini holder. We've been doing this for five years and don't feel like we're missing that additional inch...

Thanks for the responses fellas. We were running a single row of 6" tines and we ended up backing down the RPM's a little and that made all the difference. Thanks again.
