We are in the market for new walking greensmowers and have it narrowed down to the new Flex 21 or the Eclipse 2. I'm considering going with either 14 or 15 blades but am curious about potential maintenance issues. For those that have them, how difficult are they to spin and relief grind? Any other issues that have come up? Also any feedback on the new Flex21 vs. the Eclipse 2 is also welcome.

We have 14 blade units. We don't have walk behind units, but the cutting units are 14 blades. We have no problems grinding them. We have a 4000dx from bernhard. Not sure what type of grinder you have, but most newer grinder will grind them no problem.

Chad,
Thanks for the response. Since your running the Express Dual this maybe a dumb question but have you put a relief grind on your 14 blade units? If so were there any complications? We put a relief grind on all our cutting units once a year (winter) so it's a concern. Are you pleased with making the switch from 11 to 14 blades?
Thanks,
Jeff

Jeff,
We only spin grind are reels. I used to relief grind all of my reels. I switched over about 8 years from relief to just spin grind and have not noticed any difference in the cut. I used to grind with a Foley 388 and then switched to the Foley Accu-Pro and now have the 4000DX from Bernhard. I love the grinders from Bernhard I will never go back to Foley. Bernhard are so much more user friendly, however you can't do a typical relief grind like you can on a Foley. I know Bernhard has another machine that you can do relief grinding on but I have never used it. I love the 14 blades compared to the 11 blades. I have noticed a much better cut since we switched from 11 to 14. I suppose that is because we are getting more clippings because we have more blades.

Look at SIP's 7000 reel grinder. Spin and relief, and yes, you can relief the 14 blade reel Fast, easy, and your sure to be as close to 100% square and level as one can get.
