I'm currently testing new ride-on greens mowers, more specifically the John Deere 2500E, Toro 3420 and the Jacobsen Eclipse. I'm looking for feedback (positive and negative) people may have.

We've purchased the "Toro" 3400-D Flex Triplex.....We like it very much. Follows contours on the greens very well. I chose the diesel for extended life of the unit. I wanna get 10yrs or more. Plus this unit is grease less except for the verti-groomers...that's 6 grease zerks on the entire unit. Bearings are stainless steal.
I had the "Eclipse" demonstrated and I found it was to complicated for my crew...lol and all that technology and they still have that stupid screw adjustment on the reels.....I did like the ability to independently switch on or off any reel at any time.....But I just wasn't sold 100%. The Toro has a hydraulic leak detector installed also, which I like.

How much did that 3400D run you?

We just bought two Toro 3300 Triflex gasoline riding greens mowers. I am currently very happy with the units, my mechanic loves them. Easy to set-up, not one grease fitting, and the reels come off in a matter of seconds. I have only had them for a couple of months, but would not even hesitate purchasing another unit.

Right at 38k.....But I guarantee this mower will last 10+yrs. Thats about the only piece of equipment we will purchase brand new.

I was in on the development of the eclipse so you know where my thoughts are. No hydraulics is a great plus for grass.

I have run the JD.2500-E and think they are great units. You can run the engine at 3/4 throttle while maintaining your reel speed. You can adjust your reel speed, and mow all day long with them. I like the offset reels in the front, so you can change directions and not have the wear issues with the wheels as you do on the standard triplex units for clean up passes. The reels are the QA5, and allow you the ability to really fine-tune your cutting units, and set your bedknife attitude. I think they are great reels, and a very good machine. During my time running Deere, I had roughly 1200 hours on them and no major problems, just a bit over two years. I stay in touch with the new equipment manager, and as of today things are still going great. I would certainly take a close look at the Deere hybrid.

    Regards,
