Late last year or 10 year old Toro 328D outfront mower started making a tapping sound in the engine. It sounded a lot like valves or lifters tapping. Well I parked it until we could get around to pulling the motor. After pulling it apart I found that the center piston had a broke ring and it scarred the cylinder wall at the top too bad to have bored out. It also looks like the cylinders are too close together to have a sleeve installed.
I am advising my club that we should replace the mower with a new Zero Turn Mower, which I have been convinced from you posters on these forums are worth using.
I would still like to get the 328D back together as a backup but not at a cost of $5,000 for a new engine (not from toro, they want $4,500 just for the block). I have been watching ebay for a block and have seen a few around $600-$2,500. The motor is a Kubota 1105D. Just wondering if any of you may have one sitting around you want to get rid of. It does not have to be running just in decent shape. I really do not need any parts off of it other then the block and guts if possible.
unfortunately I have three Kubota 1005 D which goes to the Jacobsen GKIV that will not fit. I would be interested in a swap if someone needs the smaller engine. These are in good running shape since it was the mowers that had other issues that we pulled them out of.
