The club has a Jacobsen LF3400 that just shuts the complete unit down while mowing. It has also begun shutting down while driving. It is pretty sporadic, so troubleshooting is getting rather difficult. Has anyone experienced this before or does anyone have any suggestions?

Maybe a safety switch? Seat switches can be sporadic problems at times especially with a short or light operator in the seat.

yes we have had to jump off many safety switches to find these problems but one issue we had that caused them was the plugs that go into the main computer behind the drivers seat would work loose a little losing contact. My mechanic would unplug them and spray an electric cleaner into them and then plug them in again. I think at one point he had to jury rig the plug with tie straps to get it to stay into place. you might try unplugging them and reseating them.

Had the exact same thing happen to us for two months and could not figure it out, our local Jake dealer sent their best mechanic and they solved the problem, the diagnostic computer in the back had a short in it, had to replace it which by the way was not cheap but solved the problem. We have a few other 3400's so before we bought a new computer, we first swapped computers and sure enough the machine we swapped with started killing. Replaced the computer and no problems ever since. The problem drove our mechanic crazy trying to figure it out.

    Good luck.

When it shuts down, does it shut off like you turned the key off or die out like a fuel issue? If it acts like fuel, you may want to look at the screen in the fuel tank. It could be in the PC, but I have also had issues in the past with the fuel solenoid going bad, and a bad hold wire running to the solenoid. Just a couple easy things to consider before heading right to the controller. Also if you replace the controller, pack the plugs with dielectric-grease, and seal the outer case with a sealer. They say those are sealed units, but I had one go bad, and pulled it apart and had 6 to 8oz of water in it. Replaced it, sealed the cover and no more troubles.
