My John Deere fairway mower won't hover the 6" above the ground like it is designed to when the reels are engaged and the operator lifts the reels. The mower instead lifts the reels all the way up to the height it should when the reels are not engaged. I know that the knuckle that sits under the operator platform is what controls this, but I can not get the knuckle to move with the reel engagement lever. I have checked the lever and it is all connected and working fine. I tried replacing the spring that wraps around the shaft the knuckle is on because I figured it had probably lost tension. But even with the new spring the knuckle will not move. The lever is moving the spring but won't force the bottom of the spring to rotate the shaft the knuckle is connected to. I'm out of ideas at this point and hoping someone else may have had the problem and could offer some insight? Thanks.

There is an upgrade, they no longer use the steel stock you see welded there. When it doesn't go all the way down it tends to jump / push itself off the cylinder, wearing the cylinder. You may need to replace the cylinder so that there is a flat area for the new stopper to rest up against. The new piece is like a half cut piece of tubing that will rest on the cylinder and works great.

    Regards,

Ok, that makes more sense. Thank you very much.

It is nice to hear there is an upgrade. We just had that same problem on a 3225C at the end of the season, but waited till this winter to get into and had to replace the lift cylinder because it wore the edge out and would jump over the bracket.
