The timing really depends a lot on the type of turf that is being mowed. Some grasses require grinds more frequently, and others not as often. Our rule of thumb we like to follow is, when greens units no longer cut a single piece of paper clean and we have to go to a double we then schedule a grind. The length of time between grinds would depend on how much topdressing we're doing at the time. However, we hand face our bedknives everyday on every machine that is used. We pretty much follow this practice with all of our cutting units. This system allows us to do more of a touch-up grind, instead of really needing to grind hard and take a lot of unnecessary metal off the reel.
