So I have inherited dozens of Par Aide rope stakes made out of recycled plastic, but I do not want to put out ropes next season. Thinking of converting those rope stakes into directional markers, by cutting the tops off of them and painting the lower half white. My question is has anyone else attempted this? Seen this done before? Have any tips or pitfalls to share? Thanks guys!

That recycled stuff doesn't typically take paint well, if I were going to do it I would consider vinyl guard. If they are tall enough you could cut them in half and make two?

    Matt,

I will also throw my kudos to the way of vinyl guard. We have the recycled stakes as well including all of our hazard stakes. I have begun minimizing our hazard stakes and converting them to the green and white directional stakes like the ones Par Aide offer. Vinyl Guard has green or white caps I tried both and prefer green on top of white. We typically can make two out of 1 stake if need be...

With a little green or white electrical tape where the two colors meet you can't tell the difference from a distance. The only time golfers really look at them is when they are pulling them out of the bottom of their cart:D Our guys much prefer moving these versus rope and stakes.

I have also heard of people using a belt sander to "clean" up the plastic stakes. I tried it and didn't like it versus the vinyl guard?
