We have 3, 4500s and a 4700. We mow and it'll always clump up. Blow behind when dry.

Get yourself some Turfpride Ultra blades and the clumping will go away.

I have never used Turfpride Ultra blades. So what your telling me, I can mow bermudagrass rough (Dew or no dew) in August at 1.5" and there will be no clippings to blow? Where can I get these blades for a 4500 & 3500 (TORO).

    Joey,

I don't know about bermudagrass since I am in Wisconsin, but we mow bluegrass at 1-3/4" with a Toro 3500 dew or no dew with no clumping. I thought we were going to have to always mow dry turf with the 3500 until we tried the Turfpride blades. They make blades to fit any mower and if the don't have your size they will custom make them. We even use them on our 22" rotaries we use around bunkers because they work much better than a mulching blade in wet turf.

We mow bermuda at 1.5" with the TurfPride Ultra blades on 4500s (without baffles) with little to no clumping. I'm told by others in this area these blades solved their clumping issues for them when they switched. The other thing I like about the ultras is they are thin enough that I sharpen them with a big file about every 10 hours and one set of blades lasts us about 3 months. Been doing that 3 years and only gone through 4 or 5 sets of blades.

I was the origin of this post and bought two sets of these blades, they do not work. Our thick rough was not sucked up enough by the light blade, we mow at 1 3/4 and switched back to standard blades within minutes and just have to blow first few passes around greens and tees all the time.Maybe we needed to lower it just did not have the patients for it.

Toro makes different style of blades for the 35, 45-4700 mowers, try different ones that may will decrease the amount of clumping the most for the type of grass you have.
    104-5183 high lift blade
    105-9810-03 angle sail blade
    107-0235-03 atomic blade
    108-9026-03 combo blade

The distance between the bottom of the deck to the floor on our decks are:
    front- 11/16"
rear(measured on each side about 6" in front of rear roller mounts)-1"

I dipped a tape measure into the turf and get no more than 1.5" (effective HOC). This, along with frequency of mowing may be why we havn't even noticed the low-lift aspect of these blades for the past 5 years.
