We have a new Salsco HP4 roller that was having trouble with the chains wearing out and dragging on the greens when we roll. Our distributor came out and replaced the chains and then when the issue continued went as far as to remove a half a link from the chain. When the problem persisted we were told that it was a design issue and that topdressing sand getting into the chain was the cause of the problems. Salsco has developed a fix for this that involves some major cutting and welding to keep sand and debris from the chain but our distributor disputes the effectiveness of this and installed a sealed o-ring chain that they claim is a more effective solution.

    My questions are:
1)Has anyone had similar problems with the chains on this roller?
2)Did you use the recommended Salsco fix or did the distributor opt for something else?
3)If you went with the Salsco fix, did it resolve the issue?

We're having the same issues and more or less told our distributor to let Salsco know we weren't going to pay $300 per roller to fix their poor design. We've found some decent priced bulk chain and swap them out periodically as they stretch, and we're waiting to hear back from Salsco as to what they're going to do to solve the problem. If they'll cover the kits to fix it, we'll probably install them.
