Just wondering how many of you all grind new bedknives before you put them out in the field?

I not sure about the rest, but after 30 years in the industry I know less than a hand full that don't grind them after mounting them to the shoe. You should always grind them to make sure they are true to the mounting surface, and also matches up to the freshly ground reel. A bedkinfe out of the box does not mean it's straight, or even the correct angle for you application. I am one who will not grind one without grinding the other. Just my opinion.

Agreed! Even if the bedknives out-of-box is laser straight, once you secure it to the bed at, it will have waves. Only way to eliminated those waves is to lightly grind.

We grind between 7 and 8 top face and 15 front face. I know a lot of guys doing 5 & 5 or 7 & 5. I like the front betweent 10 to 15 as I think it helps gather up more of the turf for a better cut.

I know at Lake City we were always taught to grind bedknives, but here we don't have the grinder from what I remember, they do all of our reel grinding at one of the other courses. So it's not getting done, except by backlapping.
