I have been a member since 1999 and I cannot remember having so many ads in the magazine that we members pay for.

I counted 10 ads before the first article (which was the presidents message). I gave up counting the number of ads before I came across anything relevant or informative.

I would think that with the number of ads in GCM that it would be free, or at least offset the cost of GCSAA membership.

Is it too much of a workout flipping pages or what? The things that people find to complain about amaze me. I commend the staff of the GCSAA for selling ads for the magazine. You are doing a great job and still receiving complaints; that is remarkably similar to being a golf course superintendent!

The ads sold in GCM are also sold in other trade mags, which has kept them free of charge through the years. If the ads weren't in there, what price would you be willing to pay to receive the magazine?

I always read GCM from cover to cover, then go back and review the ads. There has been more than just a couple of times I have found an ad that is useful to me and have purchased the product.

The USGA Green Section Record is ad free. Then again, because of this, they went to an all digital format earlier this year.

I understand they have to have ads to support the mag, but it seems excessive to me to have that many before any meaningful content.

Seriously? Have you read any other magazines? They are all FULL of ads, that's how they make money!

Yup and I can't think of any that are loaded with ads at the start. I'm not arguing the ads, rather the fact that they are 10 deep before the presidents message (yawn)

Almost every magazine I read is the same way. It's just the way it is. Turn the flippin page....

Now if you are talking about the hardstock, pull out ads that cause you to rip the page tearing them out, then yes, I can do without those. They stink.

If you aren't fond of the ads, this is the place to say so. I have to say that I also am not fond of adds, but GCSAA has to balance advertising against services. Want fewer ads, what services do you what to cut? Just like any buddget, revenues need to outstrip expenses. I know it is difficult because the PACE website is ad-free and totally member supported. It is not possible to provide GCSAA services based upon membership fees alone. Certainly not a publication the quality of GCM. There isn't enough money to support research - times are tough. We probably need to be thankful that the advertisers want to continue purchasing ad space.

Maybe they can at least move the President's address to the front before the ads.

Amazing the things people find to complain about.....like the member telling me that a OB marker in an obscure corner of the course needs to be moved by 5 feet because he hit his ball OB there. He only missed the fairway by 125 yds.

I'd be more upset about the cuts in research, but that's just me.

You could always try the digital version. Easier to click that physically turning the pages?
