    Hey all,
just some questions about snow mold apps. Last year, I put down chloro and prop down on the fairways with AIC 11010's, we have lots of wind this time of year so I went with the bigger droplets to reduce drift. We had great fairways but had a lot of breakthrough with a different four way product on our greens and collars. I will be switching to an XRC flat fan to reduce the droplet size but it will increase the drift potential on the greens and collars. I want to make sure that when Im putting the stuff down, it is doing what its supposed to do! I use enclave on the greens and collars, which is the four way mix of chloro, prop, ipro and TM. the smaller droplet sizes should help with the contact fungicides but what about the systemic? Also, at the higher pressure to get the wanted 4 mph and still have the carrier of 2.0 gal per m2. When you look at the teejet specs, is their readings on the right for the total output of all nozzles per m2? I think it is because it is measured for m2 so with an 18' boom it should be 2.0 gpm2 with 20" nozzle spacing. dumb questions, i know but I figured I would ask people who have been doing it for a lot longer than I!!!

    Aaron,
We also use enclave. We do 2 applications at half rate (4 oz/1000) using 40 gpa. We will do the first app sometime around Nov 1-3 and the second around Nov 6-8. We go 2 different directions to make sure there are no skips. We also use a good surfactant called X-Cellerate that seems to help a lot with distribution uniformity.

I called quali pro and discussed with them the difference in droplet sizes and they said they havent done feild trials regarding droplet size. We went with the XR teejet to get a medium droplet. last year we used AI teejet and had coarse droplet size. I believe that with the finer droplet size, we will get better results with the chloro being a contact, but the DMI ( Teb) will be different. we did do a late season app Oct 2nd, of ipro and prop because we were seeing a little yellow patch on a green, so I went with a light rate of both ipro and prop and it seemed to take care of the frog eyes!!!

Have you thought about adding a drift reducing product like Border from Precision?

    Andy,
I didnt even know a product like that existed! I was just on their website yesterday looking at something but I didnt see that product.

It's under the Turf and Ornamental tab. There is a pretty cool video on this page that shows what Border can do.

There are others on the market, this is just the only one I have personal experience with.

    Aaron,
From what I understand the air induction nozzles do produce a coarse droplet size but the droplet is supposed to be infused with air and then rupture when it hits the plant in order to produce good coverage. We get alot of wind here and I amost exclusively use the air induction nozzeles with great results. They also have to be run at 40+ psi to work properly.

Okay first you called the company! They do not know what to use then I would find a new chemical company. Myself I found a middle of the road nozzle that on my equipment (red) and speed / pressure puts a perfect 2 gal per 1000. I have three units and they are all set up the same and have never had a problem. I use Fungicides Herbicides, Insecticides and fertilizers at the same rate all products I use and this rate does fit into label guidelines of every product I use. My case is special as an American with a non English speaking crew (well maybe not so special in America many clubs have non English speaking crews these days). Even more reason to keep things simple.
I have bid Quail pro products and cost was always to high.

    Aaron,
Check out Greenleaf Technologies. They have a great dual fan turf nozzle. At 4mph with 40 PSI GPM is at 1.36. I found it to be a good in between application rate for systemic and contact combination.
