I'm in South Fl and am dealing with mole crickets everywhere. Is everyone else down here dealing with this.

This is going to be a horror show year for mole crickets in South Florida because it has been so warm. It is going to be impossible to get a very well timed pesticide application at the top of a hatchling stage. I think I will spray Talstar S with Orthene when we do our shot at hatchlings because I expect to have a wider range of the life cycle showing at that time, probably later this month or early next month.

The ones you are seeing now are probably adults who will be laying eggs soon. They will die after that, but the more of the adults you can kill now the better. Probably evening sprays of acephate with full moons and irrigation off will help. I have seen superintendents do wonders with cheaper baits, but they must have some mojo I don't because that has not been my experience.

Otherwise, Choice will chase damage out of treated areas. If you can treat everything that is great. If not, Katy bar the door in areas adjacent to the treated areas.

We are seeing them up here too. We planned to do Chipco Choice this year for the first time in a few after previously treating with a program of Bifenthrin and Imidacloparid followed up 100 days later with Precise. We were pretty clean all year but have seen our later fall, early spring populations increase prior to retreating the following year. Since our Choice application isn't until May, we went ahead and sprayed fairways with the Bifenthrin and Imidacloparid last week to get any active crix since it's been so warm. Also have been throwing bait with good success using the Chloropyrifos 1% product at 100#/ac.

I think with the warm winter, if you aren't doing Choice you are going to be in trouble this fall.

I have not used choice in three years. We have used Aloft and great results, but most others in the area have not. I think that I'll use the Aloft in the next two weeks and try to put a package that I can convince the membership that we should also do a choice app. in late May along with acephate in problem areas. Also has anyone used top choice after pulling cores on greens and dragging it in with the sand.

Only after dragging in the sand as the last step before watering.

I've done the TopChoice on the greens with good results. Now we use Arena and Aloft on alternating months to help prevent "grub castings" also known as earthworms. We get good control on the greens with these apps as well.
