Anyone have any ideas on something to spray or spread on greens to keep sandhill cranes from poking holes in them. There are no insects present, it seems they hang out around a few greens near where homeowners are feeding them in their back yards. When there are no "hand-outs" available they meander in the area just digging for fun. Tried cayenne pepper, doesn't work.

In Florida it is illegal to feed Sand Hill Cranes Florida Fish and Wildlife Code 68A-4.00(3)). You can inform the homeowners of this.
When we see them on or near greens we pop the heads up and they seem to learn after a couple times that they don't want to hang out there any more.

I've used a product called Spotrete, Its labeled as a fungicide/animal repellent. I sprayed it on my greens and other area I didn't want Coots on. It worked really good and it seemed like after two apps two weeks apart they never even tried to go on that area. it also worked for geese so maybe it will work on the cranes. I got it from Simplot.

    Good luck.

Plenty of them here in winter soaring at about 1000 feet. Beautiful and no problems
