I've sprayed RoundUp (by one name or another) on dormant bermudagrass fairways for 20 years. I now have Zoysiagrass tee tops and bunker surrounds. I have heard RoundUp is not a good choice for dormant Zoysia and Revolver should be used.

    Thoughts please.

    Thanks.

I am in the transition zone and have a mixture of bermuda/zoysia fairways and tees. I spray round up along with barricade every February. I have never had any problems. I say go for it, if your main target is Poa it doesn't take much round up to kill it.

Spraying Round-Up on dormant zoysia does a good job of killing most weeds and coolseason grasses. However, every winter when I used Round-Up I got a slight delay in green-up. Here in Tennessee it has been a very mild winter. If I were to spray this winter there is a good chance I would get more of a delayed green-up than normal. I do not know where you are located. Also some zoysia varieties go more dormant than others. For the ones that do not go as dormant I would expect you would get more damage. Meyer goes more dormant than any of the others I have played with (but it greens up earliest in the spring). If you were to spray Round-Up make sure there are no buds in Weeping Willows about to pop out leaves. I have found when buds have popped on willows some new growth has started on zoysia and you will get much more injury. Revolver should have been sprayed in the fall. I doubt you get total control if you were to spray it this late. That would especially be true if you have big clumps of Poa.

I have found that GPA is very important when treating zoysia with glyphosate. You don't want a high rate that penetrates the canopy and can do damage. 25 GPA works for me. If you're not sure, try a few test areas and see how they respond in the spring. You can always treat other areas with Revolver once things warm up...(been in the sixties most of the week here).
