    Hey guys,

Just wondering what people are doing to fight crabgrass on tees. Pre-emerge, or post? Products and rates. I've never done a pre-emerge on tees and had a concern with divots not filling in or seed not germinating. I got hammered on my par 3s and range tee last year, but with the heat we had I did not pull the trigger on using Drive because I figured any green was better than no green.

Just wondering what people are doing out there.

My tees are a mix of bent/poa and range tee is bent/poa/rye.

    Thanks!

Andrew, when I was in Indiana we would use Drive, but either early or late summer, heard that when it was hot the results weren't great, the crab wouldn't take in the Drive. We didn't use pre-emergents but we did keep the fert levels up on tees and felt that kept the weeds down.

Here in MO we are using a pre-emergent then come back with Drive on any breakthrough.

    Andrew,

This past season I mixed Dimension (pre-emrg) with Killex. But the applicator for some reason beyond my knowledge mixed Sevin T&O in with it. My tees looked awful for about a week due to some phytotoxic shock. But it was the best control of Crabgrass, weeds and Ants I've ever had on my tees. Didn't see one Crabgrass plant emerge.

I've used either dimension or barricade for my pre-emergent app, then come back with Drive for any post issues. I always use the high rate. We treat all our tees (blue) and our range tee (blue, rye). I've never had an issue with getting new seed up. We've seeded with a divot mix and a slit seeder. The divots taken seem to break enough of the barrier to allow germination. I was a little worried about germination the first year we did this. However, we have treated this way for 4 or 5 years now and seems to work the best for us. The worst break through is where our sprayer wasn't using a marker and missed strips between passes.

Not sure how often you spray fungicides on tees but tank mixing low rates of Acclaim (4oz/A) every two weeks would help. What we have seen at Maryland is that it's low soil moisture that increases damage with Drive, more so than temperature. If you have any nutsedge low rates (20oz/A) of MSMA will burn crab and nutsedge also. Kenneth Ingram, UMD.

We use the very broad spectrum Pre-emergent herbicide RONSTAR 3 lb. A.I./acre annually wall to wall and achieve exceptional control. It is a very safe proven product to use on our turf. Cost can be justified by our reduction in our Post emergent budget. If any post emerge is required...we have always resorted to MSMA spot spraying (last year labeled in Georgia). I have used the DRIVE product and received satisfactory results (Timing is everything). I

I am always very wary of DNA Herbicides during Spring Green up.

Do you split apply that....two 1.5lb/ai's/acre or just one 3lb application?

Any green is better than no green is a false claim that people with a lot of weeds use.Ronstar is more expensive but will not root prune your existing grass and is probley the best choice until you develope your turf.Pendimethilyn {sp} is cheaper but works well.Soil temperatures of 53 for three nights or sparying the crab grass before the third leaf comes out is very effective and second application in july is sometimes neccessary under extreame conditions.Fertilize your par threes as if it was a grow in as it probley is if there is not much turf there.

    Andrew,

Whats up it Virgil....use to work at Aurora CC....Last yr I used dimension on tees and didnt have good control at all. The goose and crab grass was everywhere....even in fairways....this year i sprayed stonewall(barricade) on fairways and green banks....Didnt put any preemerge on tees because im spraying with accliam every 2 weeks. Acclaim controls nutsedge, goose and crab....And if needed ill spray either acclaim or drive in the fairways when needed.
    Hope all is well
