Are there any recommendations on removing some old 419 out of Champion bermudagrass greens? What about Basamid Gr. ?

    Brad,

Not sure, but there may have been a thread here before on this... I have Miniverde with common bermuda (after the greens were converted from bent 11 years ago). Had some patches of common remaining around some of the edges... we were aggressive with our groomers and the common was overtaken in two or three seasons. Might take longer with 419, but I think it would still favor the Champion...

    Close, "Yellow Dog."

I don't understand why it's called "yellow dog." Just say contamination. I think it's easier for a member or golfer to understand, also.

I just call it "off-type" contamination. Mutated Tifdwarf is what it looks like to me.

The term, "Yellow Dog," was coined by Morris Brown, as an excuse in my mind. My Champion was planted before I got here and Morris told them to not worry about it and the Champion would take it over. Ummm....not even close. Since then we have been ignored by the Browns. They have offered to provide some sprigs if we wanted to redo the greens ourselves, otherwise, SOL.

I figured is was some "polished up, scientific term" for contamination. I think that Mr. Brown is a little too prideful in saying the champion would grow over the 419. I don't think that we will ever see a ultradwarf overtake 419...wishful thinking.

Yep. I have yet to see Champion overtake 419 or contaminated areas. We just make the most of the situation.
