Anyone out there using any mass texting (sms) software? I would like to have the ability to sit down at my computer or use my smartphone to send a message to the entire membership. I sit in board and green committee meetings discussing ways of reaching the membership with information, and I see people stop constantly to check their text messages!

Why not use that technology? I could send course updates, the proshop could send event reminders, the clubhouse could send daily specials..

Just wondering if anyone else out there is doing such a thing and what their experience/costs has been.....

    Thanks
    Paul

While I have not ever considered mass texting I have been slowly adding all my members to my email program and I also have a blogsite. Recently I have started pushing our club facebook site (which I had set up) by adding a daily weather and course conditions announcement. The facebook part has recently taken hold on a large part of my membership. I think it is because almost everyone has the facebook app on their phones.
Personally I do not think I want to go with texting as it can have its flaws. For one, it feels wrong to use members personal phones for this purpose. I would hate to be the reason one of my members got in an accident looking at a text (although the same argument can be said about the facebook route). The biggest reason is it feels like telemarketing and I hate it when a telemarketer calls my phone.

This is a program that is gear towards schools, but we use it at my church and it is very good to send out group text and it does not share cell numbers with other people and the person receiving the text is not able to reply to the group text. remind.com

Our high school band dropped Twitter and went to remind also.

I use mass texting for a core group of members who wanted to know when then course would be available through the winter time.

It works well, the only con is they can reply. The app was free until your contact list reached 15, at that it was maybe $1.99. You can have as many lists as you want.

    Hope this helps.
