Wow, I know times are tough but moving to Pakistan for 50k does anyone else think that is a little weak? O yeah 15 years experience, I was looking for rocket launcher training required with chemical warfare license preferred. I heard there is a nice house now available close to their military headquarters, some big shot just captured who lived there. I'm sure it is up someones alley, probably a great job just seams a little crazy.

I think it depends on your personal situation, professional goals, and current employment status. Early in my career I wanted to work overseas but that becomes difficult once you have children. My last one leaves the flock next year, after that, I would consider overseas employment opportunities without much regard for salary. What is the cost of living there? Maybe you can live there for next to nothing.

Because of the current nature of the industry, there are a lot of Assistants that have been unable to move up. Instead of becoming a career assistant or leaving the industry, maybe they would consider going overseas for the experience. I can personally attest to the fact that there are a lot of unemployed Superintendents or former Superintendents in other roles that might consider that opportunity to get back into the industry.

    Happy Thanksgiving!

And here I thought this was a political thread....50k might be better then the 35k superintendent position, of course there are the 40-50k assistant positions as well. Have to look at all the facts and figures then decide in my opinion.

Maybe I should have left the 50k part out, I was more shocked about a golf course in Pakistan. Just trying to put a little humor in a sometimes to serious forum, I guess I missed the mark. I fully understand there are many factors to look at in a job, I would actually love to hear stories from who ever ends up working there. I am sure my craziest story would probably be nothing compared to what that job will entail. Again not really looking for lectures, just thought it would be a pretty intense work atmosphere..

Me too, Mel. Sounded like a great investment opportunity. I know I could get a loan for $50K. Pakistan's got to worth at least double that.

I think I would rather work for 50g in Pakistan than make 50g and work someplace where all your values are threatened daily...KALIFORNIA.
Don't try to get laughs here, we's all professionals...just ask us.

I thought it was pretty funny and I completely agree. I'm sitting at the in-laws right now reading about grass trying to duck as much conversation as possible and when I read the actual job posting I literally started laughing and they all sorta stared at me. I don't care what the cost of living is there...it's PAKISTAN. Not exactly the most stable country on earth. I don't know if anyone's heard but the Middle East can be a little dangerous.

Salary and living conditions aside, postage can be free at times, if handled like a kid. True story here.

Back in about 1967 I had an uncle who at that time worked as a geologist either for the USGS or some big international dam buliding company - I don't remember which - and he and his family were living in Pakistan while he was involved in bulding some big dam. It was in either Rawalpindi or Lahore - I don't remember which - but I do remember it wa 1967.

Anyway, one of his sons - my cousin - was about 10 years old then. We'd exchange letters every once in awhile where I'd tell him about the most recent San Francisco 49ers blowout loss, then he'd write me about how dirty the water was, or other such things. Well, this one time, I opened the letter he wrote me and began reading how he hoped the letter would even get to me because he couldn't find any stamps. I put the letter down and looked at the front of the envelope. The kid couldn't find a stamp, so he took a #2 pencil and drew in the upper right corner of the envelope in a little square a profile view of George Washington or some other dead famous American, drew four or five wavy lines horizontally across the "stamp", added a 7 cent indicator (or whatever the value was then) and sent it on its way. Every mail distribution center along the way put their own stamp of approval on it and it got to me in about 10 days.

I think that's about when the USPS started losing money.

I think that is a federal offense and a major breach of the union contract. Your cousin is in serious trouble.

About 10 years ago I was building a course in Indonesia, after the project was over one of the team went to work in Pakistan. I do not remember the city, he loved it and I did receive a few letters from him, the people were kind and good to him and they were good workers. I am sure some things have changed in ten years.
Some of the benefits normally afforded to an expat, that someone in need of a job should look at. 50-60 K is tax free, housing free, utility free, air-fare to the states once a year. Most likely meals on the job are inclusive and maybe even clothing. For a single person this could be a gold mine to save for the future. Your living cost would be a few hundred a month. In five years you could save 200+K.
Down falls, being an American this country, travel might be limited. Drinking is almost for sure a no and drugs will get you prison or worse. If you are not Muslim you will need to be Agnostic real fast…. Cursing could be a problem. A girl-friend very unlikely, but possible, remember daddy has an AK-47.
If I was 15 years younger, and in need of work, I would for sure look into it.
