Believe it or not, this is one of the latest training topics being offered to managers at the City. I'm not even sure the title sounds appropriate.

"Super Manager or Super Spy: The Use of Technology in Monitoring Employee Conduct"

Can't wait to sign up for this one to see what it's all about.

Gary, we haven't got that one yet, probably all the rage in the corporate world as government entities are always a little behind.

Let's see....life of a Superintendent in the corporate world.....cameras in and out of my shop, salaried employees must clock in and out when they enter or leave the property, monitoring software on our computers, emails get read, internet is so restricted I had to beg them to even let me use GCSAA.org or TurfNet, our cells phones have restricted internet access and GPS as well. We have over 1,000 cameras on property. You are always being watched here, unless you are on the course away from any building!

    Andy,

I made the department top 10 list a couple of times for Internet use and was talked to about my Internet use. Seems I was spending a lot of time on sports sites like GCSAA, USGA, NGF, CGCSA. Reality is that they can't even separate out a webcast or online committee meeting and anything and everything with golf in it is a "sports" site. Amazingly enough during the Soccer World Cup the system almost shut down from overload because so many were watching while at work and and as far as I can tell nothing happened. Oh well, that's just how it is these days I guess.

You are exactly right. All those sites fall into the category "sports". I was looking to buy a used trencher once, and couldn't even get on equipment trader or the like because it was categorized as an "online auction". They even had a few, but not all, of the weather sites categorized as "entertainment" and were blocked. The funniest of them all....when they first installed this round of software, they had blocked our ADP site. It was funny as hell when Monday rolled around and our IT department was getting phone call after phone call because no one could get in to do payroll. Pretty sure at least one IT guy got fired over that.
