I have been asked to create a document that differentiates the greenskeeper positions at my course. Over the last 30 years people have been moved into many different titled positions but all do essentially the same thing at different pay rates. I have narrowed the number of different positions to 3, Greenskeeper I, II, & III (besides irrigation tech, spray tech, Asst, Mechanics).

I am looking for some info on the differentiation between a greenskeeper I, II, III or whatever you may call the different positions at your course. Like Greenskeeper I does XYZ, II does XYZ plus this, and so on.

Didn't know if anyone had done something similiar. This document is realy more so when people want move up they know what training they need to have received and been proficient at.

For general crew members, we have basically Operator and Laborer. Since everyone does everything (because we cross train the crew since we are such good managers, lol), almost everybody is an Operator. I only have one Laborer currently, and that's basically the person that cleans my bathrooms all day everyday. But, in the summer if we hire a few high school kids, they are classified as a Laborer since they can't operate the majority of the equipment nor perform the tasks that an Operator can.

In the past I have had a Senior Operator position that had a higher pay grade. This was basically a Foreman or Crew Leader position before we hired a true 2nd Assistant.

At the end of the day, titles are just that and we expect everyone, including myself, to be able to perform any task we have out here with the exception of spraying. Their pay is relative to their job knowledge and ability to perform the tasks. For instance, someone that has been here a long time and can do everything is paid more than someone that has been here a long time that can only perform a limited number of tasks.
