I may actually have an oppurtunity to attend!!! Was wondering what you guys budget for the show? How much do you allot? Do you pay for it, then expense it? What do you include; flight, car, meals?

First class flight to and from, limo to the hotel and throughout the week to any event you partake in, all meals covered as well as excessive amounts of alcohol for anybody you see worth buying for, registration for the show and tips the whole time you are in town. That's what I would budget for if I could.

Unfortunately though, my club is covering registration and hotel, I just have to get there. I'm hoping I can find a place around $150/night near the convention center to avoid having to pay for cabs. Meals for the most part are cheap, or can be paid for by vendors.

    Hope to see you there.

I budgeted 1,500 but may be a bit short with room prices in San Diego and a longer flight.

I have the club send in the registration and pay for the room in advance. I get reimbursed for flight, travel costs and meals after the fact.

The easiest way to save is to share a room. You shouldn't need a rental car. When a function offers food, eat it. Some guys prefer to shop around and find a non-affiliated hotel at a better price. I just stay with the GCSAA ones as it is easier to find people I know, the quality is decent and the shuttle will pick you up without worry.

FWIW, San Diego has a great light rail system http://www.sdcommute.com/ for local transportation around town.

Andy, I will allow you to pitch a tent in my backyard for $125 a night. It is about a 20 mile drive to the convention center. I promise I will turn off the sprinklers!

I just purchased air fare from Kansas city to san Diego got 450.00 through southwest. And reserved the hotel for 800.00 for 5 days. It's more expensive this year as it was in Vegas last year.

    Better make your reservations soon.

$450 air fare from KC? I checked it a month or so ago and it was in the mid $200 range from there, about $450 from here in Springfield and figured by the time mileage was paid, price was the same. I figure the airlines know about distances and price accordingly to encourage local travel. Of course I might be blowing smoke, but I have to have some conspiracy theories.

450 was the only non stop. a 1 stop trip is about 250.00. i have the worlds worst luck when it comes to flying and getting where im going on time so i take the non stop flights. Ive lost luggage for 5 days, flew from san diego to texas, then florida then new york just to get home to chicago. Ive been sitting on a plan at the airport for hrs just to find out that the pilot decided to take the day off. Just bad luck so a non stop flight is a must for me.

Wow those are expensive. I found 164 last week one way with Southwest out of Midway here in Chicago, I book immediately, 350 round trip. And for the rates that are offered with hotel through GCSAA is insane. Look at hotel sites seperately, you may be able to find cheaper prices or deals they are offering. I remember last year in Vegas, Hard Rock had a deal going where it was 99/night. 3 years in San Diego I stayed at the W and they had a deal for 89/nt. This year I just book at Hotel Indigo which is a new hotel about 8 blocks from the convention center over by PetCo Park and their rate was 181/nt about 40-50 dollars cheaper then what was available through GCSAA. Good luck!

Just booked my trip through Expedia for a little over $750. I'm flying out Monday non-stop from Orlando to San Diego, staying at the Ramada St. James Hotel in the Gaslamp Quarter, and returning Friday with a layover in Houston. This is about half of what I had originally expected to spend.

My only concern is, even though my hotel is 7 blocks from the convention center, that either I'll be doing a lot of walking, or hailing some cabs. Not sure if the GIS shuttle buses go up that route.

7 blocks? That should be an easy walk Andy.

C'mon now. I take a Carry-All from my office to the mechanics bay because the 50' walk is too long. You think these fat legs are gonna make that trip everyday??? I walked from the Riviera Hotel to the convention center everyday I was in Vegas. My feet killed me before I even got to where I was going, and that was with two water breaks and a siesta in between.

Now, if the show had free food or beer, that would be enough motivation for me to walk. Possibly even a short sprint. At least once. Maybe twice.

I usually try to get a couple hundred dollars for books as the gcsaa bookstore at the show is one of my favorite stops.
