Anyone have an "Assistant In Training " program at their course? Thinking of implementing one here and looking for a sample job description or any other information.

I have a copy about twenty pages thick designed as a training base. I would be more than happy to fax it to you if you like. Or I can go to our IT dept. and get it scanned.

    James,
I am looking at an AIT program for several reasons. One, it gives a person who may not quite be ready for a 2nd assistant position (3rd assistant...Really?!?!) an opportunity to learn the skills necessary. Second, it allows us to outline a training program to learn those skills and to follow up, better than just throwing someone into a 2nd assistant position, getting busy and not following up.Third, many of the assistants that I hire are/were students here at Clemson. Some that have moved straight from a student to an assistant here in Clemson don't "break" some of those students habits, as opposed to those that relocate to a new job after college and are in a new setting. The AIT I believe will allow me to monitor this and after a 12 month training period, decide if I want them in a full blown assistants position.

Chad, thanks for offering. I don't know that it would be necessary to send the entire 20 pages. I was looking for a job description. I am going to adapt my Learning Objectives worksheet from my Internship program for the training part. Thanks.

And what do they get to put on their resume, cause Assistant in Training is rather unimpressive and vague. Id rather be an assistant to the assistant, or an irrigation tech, crew foremen. To me , Assistant in Training has a negative connotation, like "not quite good enough" but better than Joe off the street.

AIT= NBA D-League (developmental) but negative connotation

Just thinking out loud here, but before you can have a 2nd Assistant or 3rd Assistant don't you have to have a 1st Assistant....first?

    Chad,

I would be interested in reviewing your 20 page outline for the AIT position.

    Thanks in advance,
