Are assistant superintendents paid at your course on an hourly basis or are they salaried?
If salaried, are they required to work x-amount of hours during peak season and x-amount of hours during non peak season? Thanks, Kim

Where I am now, minimum of 40hrs regardless of season. First job out of college I was hourly, we worked about 50hrs per week summer and 40hrs/week in winter (plowing required additional hours). I switched to salary after first year hrs stayed same though. Following course we worked probably 50+ hrs/wk summer and then Super allowed my to ease hours in winter to make up for all the summer hrs. Just had to make sure all snow removal was taken care of along with my normal duties. min 30hrs/wk (that was a number we had agreed upon).

There are times I wish I was hourly but I also know my hourly rate would be less than my salary/2080hr per yr to figure in overtime.

When I switched from hourly to salary my salary was based on my hourly wage for 2500hrs straight which works out to 2080 hr reg time (40/wk *52 wks) and 280 hrs OT, based on my previous year we didn't even come close to that amount of OT, so the switch was worth it to me as was the consistent check every 2 weeks.

That was a very fair way to offer pay in my opinion, I didn't feel taken advantage of because I was on salary since I had the choice of hourly vs salary.

We are a city/county operation and the "assistant position" does get paid hourly as do I as the superintendent, but it is all earned as comp time, except for holidays where we would get guaranteed OT if we didn't get another day off that week.

Assistant is salaried. He works whatever hours are needed during the summer, normaly between 50-55 hours per week. during the winter between 35-40 hours per week.

    Kim,

Brooker (my assistant) is Salary, we both are expected to work 40 hours a week all year. When we aerify or have a large tournement and he has to work over 40 I generally give him flex time the following pay period. The weekends he works I give him a 3 day weekend after. We have worked together for 18 years, his institutional knowledge is worth at least 8 hrs of work a week. He averages over 40 for the year but not significantly. I would prefer to work him more in the summer and less in the fall and winter, but our system is not set up that way. It works out.

All managers for the company I work for are on salary. Assistants and Supers both. We work it as 5 days a week. My schedule in the summer is Tuesday-Saturday working around 10 hour days Tuesday through Friday and a 5 hour day on Saturday. During the winter my schedule changes to Monday-Friday and only around 8 hour days due to the slower months.

Assistants are salaried. They are required to work what is needed during the busy season. During late fall and through Winter I give them great flexibility with their schedule as long as they cover their responsibilities with coordinating hourly staff with plowing and making sure course accessories are getting prepared for next year.

Municipal course, pro, myself and assistant are salary. Mechanic is hourly.

Assistant works 40 hours per week in off-season and averages 50 in season. He starts a half hour before the crew and leaves about 15 minutes after them on most weekdays. He works 4.5 hours every other sat/sun and is off the other weekend unless we have a special event.

I have read the labor department is working on new rules to determine who is eligible for salary or in their terms "exempt from overtime". Changes will be in how much work a salaried employee does that is similar to work the non-salary staff does.

    Municipal course.

    Supt - salary - 50 hours summer/winter varies
Assistant Supt. - hourly - 40-45 hours summer with OT over 40/winter 40 hours
    Mechanic - hourly - 40-45 hours summer with OT/ winter 40 hours

Both assistant and mechanic do snow removal for city when needed and are paid by the public works department when they do snow.

Salary here, during summer we work 40-50hrs/week and winter goes down to 32. Technically my pay is based on 40 hr weeks.
