Question for those that have used this technique. We installed Better Billy bunkers last year, used Arkansas White Sand and after a brutal last month of heavy rains we are looking at different raking techniques.

Do you see a maintenance benefit, such as less washed down faces, better maintained lip of the bunker? How are you rolling the face? Do you see any time savings or is it more inconvenient to perform? Golfer impact, do they respect the rolled edge, do they see a benefit, do they like the look?

Thanks all, not sure if we will be going to this but seeing others opinions as we have gotten some questions from our "good golfers" on why we dont perform this like they see on TV. Thanks!

We have been using the Aussie method-what we call 'flat raking' the edge, not actually rolling. I have a manufactured angular sand that sets up firm when not constantly fluffed. It allows the ball to roll off the flashed face, down to the raked floor. Members talked about it for about the first month, now I never hear a word about it. We simply use the back of our Par Aide rakes to do the edge...we have about 3 different rakes that can be used on the floors, depending on soil moisture.

Side note: how did the billy bunkers hold up in the heavy rains?

    Thanks Josh,

Better Billy has been a huge lift during rain events, this year have had plenty to test them! Over the past month we have had rain storms of 6.5", 4.25" and several 3.5" with a lot of the city down for weeks at a time, ours were always playable the day of the rain with minimal shoveling and pushing. Still get some washed faces, especially in the 6.5 and 4.25" rains, but that is to be expected with 100 year rain events. Definitely recommend them if your course can afford the process, well worth it in my opinion!
