So I posted the commercial to the "Thank a GC Superintendent campaign on my Facebook page today. Granted this was the Agronomy page for my club, but I admin the page and I am pretty much the only one that posts anything. I started this page to share our daily operations and to share things about our profession. Here is the page:

    https://www.facebook.com/Huntsville-CC- ... 999804431/

This morning...my Office Manager send me a nice text telling me that I should take that post down because it makes the office staff look like they do not work as hard as we do or something like that....

Here is the story, I am relocating my Family from South Florida to Huntsville, AL.
    I am in Florida preparing my house to be put on the market. The text basically said this;
"While you are in Florida, we are up here working our tails off and that video offends us!
Should I be upset when Secretary's day is here? Please help me understand why this was said to me.

    BTW.....
    The Members love me
My Owners think I've hung the moon
I'm a little over budget, but I will make it up later in season...we operate on a "Bottom Line" budget.

Here is my real problem......This "office manager" will become GM when current GM/Owner passes away from terminal cancer.
OH.......I've only been there since Oct. of last year.
    Advice............

Nothing shocks me anymore when it comes to someone being offended. I hate people.

As long as the owner is on your side, than no worries. I would even point out to the owner that the GM was offended by the post. There is some truth in his text.

I am offended that the office manager is offended.

Nice facebook page btw. Makes mine look really weak.

The GM obviously needs to relocate to his/her safe place.

Do you answer to the owner(s) or the GM? That answer will have a bearing on what to do.

Personally I would not apologize for the post. You did nothing wrong. I would, however, explain to the GM that the post was not meant to demean any other position but rather to inform the masses of the superintendent role on the golf course. Should the GM persist then you will have to make a judgement call. Do you stand your ground and make a statement that the GM is overly sensitive and he/she cannot impose his/her childish will upon you? Or is such a post worth the potential for a confrontational relationship hence forth?

Mark, I just sent the commercial to my Director of Golf, GM, and Head Golf Pro. They all said they loved it and we are going to get it on our website and facebook page. That doesn't help your problem but shows some people just want to complain if they aren't praised everyday.

    Mark,

Did you take the post off the page? I did not see it recently posted, was it the February 16th post?

Off topic, what are you editing videos with?

I can understand their side...don't agree with it--we always walk a fine line when self promoting. Nothing to apologize for, but I look at it this way: you have to work with this person, making waves could come back to haunt you later or at very least doesn't do anything for building bridges. Removing the link really isn't any skin off your teeth. Good to know what kind of people you have to deal with, hopefully this is the exception and not the rule at your new gig. You could make a stand and get into a pissing match, but think about what you have to gain and what you have to lose, pick your battles. As mentor of mine is fond of saying, when you wrestle with pigs, you wind up in the mud.

Not to hijack your post but how did you post that video? I would like to add it to my blog.

Line 5 above (where I quoted your post), no doubt, contributes to lines 2 & 3...
    I agree with Keith
Not worth it...lines 2 & 3 will change and you don't want the new GM to help bring that change on

When in the world did we switch to this idiotic position that nobody should ever be offended. Those are exactly the type of people I would get great joy out of offending! No humor, everything has to reflect someones feelings, we have become completely sissified if such a word exists. I wish you could tell this guy to put on his big boy pants and quit crying but of course that wouldn't be politically correct and it might put your job at risk. Boy it is nice being closer to the tail end of my career. Turning 70 in a couple of months and so glad I will not have to work in the environment all of you have to. Couple of years, I will start up with a travel agent and we will do worldwide golf and wine tours for my next career. Answer will be simple, if you can't afford it, don't talk to me. world has gone insane!
