Every chapter is looking for a unique way to engage members. GCSAA's affiliated chapters have come up with many non-traditional events to bring people together.  Some of these successful events include tours of stadiums, attending sporting events, axe throwing — the list is long.

The Minnesota GCSA recently hosted a "carnival" to show recognition and support for industry partners, while ensuring their members could interact with all attendees.  

The TPC Twin Cities was host to the event May 3. The concept was simple yet brilliant. Have industry partners line up down the side of the driving range, drop the tailgate to their trucks, and interact with members, providing intel on new products and services.  

Each industry representative provided unique opportunities for engagement. Some held a chipping contest, where you could earn a prize. Others brought cornhole or bean bag toss, other industry partners were allowed to demo their equipment in real time.

Diverse industry representatives were on hand. From the University of Minnesota, providing intel on turfgrass research, to companies with electric range mowers and ball pickers, superintendents were exposed to a wide variety of products and services.

Nearly 100 participants were on hand. In addition to the networking, everyone had a chance to win prizes during a chapter-sponsored long drive, chipping and putting contest.  

And the kicker? The event was held with NO cost to attendees. Talk about value. Brick oven pizzas were made on site for lunch. Beverages also included.



There's continued discussion to expand the event in future years. Could other industry representatives participate, to add to the visibility and the success of the event? We will see.

Showing value, especially through networking and education are the strength of our chapters.  

Safely moving forward in 2021 will be key to all of our success. We are on the verge of a busy summer season in many parts of the country. Involving your members shows the success of our industry.
