I know now I'm whipping a dead horse, but:
    User Levels and Groups
    What are administrators?
Administrators are GCSAA staff members from the technology team assigned with setting up the functionality of the board and maintaining it for GCSAA members.
    What are moderators?
Moderators are GCSAA staff members who share responsibility for reviewing posts that have been reported and routing member questions and concerns to the appropriate people. They have the authority to edit or delete posts and lock, unlock, move, delete and split topics in the forums they moderate. Generally, their role is to enter the forums only when needed to prevent users from going off-topic or posting abusive or offensive material.

    What is "The team" link?
This page provides you with a list of GCSAA staff, including board administrators and moderators and other details such as the forums they moderate.
So, in my shop the conversation would look like this:
Super: "So Mike, I see we have the new greens mower!"
Me: "Yes we do! She's a beauty, right?"
Super: " Yeah...it's going to make a huge difference. When will it be ready to go out?"
Me: "At least 5 years. I have some tweaking to do, in the mean time you can drive it, just don't engage the reels."

There is absolutely no reason that this forum can't compete with Turfnet, or any other. This one should be the hub, this one should set the standard.
Who, based on that list above, is running this show?
Kill it or let it live. This is just life support, barely functional and certainly not thriving.
My Humble Opinion. I want it to be the best.

Thanks, Todd. (I had to step away for a bit... cutting back on smoking and dealing with web issues not a good thing :-) )
My first step will be to email, then if needed call their website support. Maybe a more direct approach will at least start a discussion.
    Website support
If you are having technical problems with the website, please email us at webstaff@gcsaa.org or call our IT hotline at 785-832-4417 (8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Central time).

Believe me, I love being a member here. And I fully realize that our industry is going so fast that some details get overlooked, or even under-valued. But I see real time connectivity as a huge deal, and a major milestone this forum needs to address.
All they need to do is start with the very basics: email notification when a post receives a reply. Nobody has time to hover in front of a computer screen mashing the refresh button, praying for a response.
Feel free to shoot them an email as well, and I would appreciate it. We'll ramp it up if we need to.

Todd, This is what I sent to the support team:
"I love the basic layout of this forum, I am curious though why when I subscribe to a forum or a thread I receive no email notification.
I also wonder why, when I (and others) post questions in the feedback and help section they go unanswered.
These are basic functions and courtesies of even the smallest websites nowadays. Is there a reason the GCSAA website lacks these amenities?
    Regards,
    Mike
    "
I'll let you know if I get a response.

Warning: this is literally 10 hours worth of watching chickens maintain eye contact...
Past the 8 hour mark, unless you're union or a masochist, punch out. No trophies here, my friends.
No IT response, either... not yet.
I'm going to treat this like an electrical issue, maybe even a blown ECU. Keep probing until you find the fault.

No dice with the email, but at least the phone number works.
I did miss the office hours (central time vs pacific), but at least it was a GCSAA greeting. I'll try tomorrow during business hours.
The email was undelivered with the following:
Your message to webstaff@gcsaa.org couldn't be delivered.
The group webstaff only accepts messages from people in its organization or on its allowed senders list, and your email address isn't on the list.
    jgcmaint Office 365 webstaff
    Sender Action Required

    Sender not allowed

    How to Fix It
It appears you aren't in the same organization as the group (or a sub-group) you're sending to or your email address isn't on the group's allowed senders list. Ask the owner of the group to grant you permission to send to it, and then try again. If the group belongs to a different organization than yours, contact the organization's customer service department for assistance. If the group is in your organization and you don't know who the group owner is, you can find it by doing the following in either Outlook on the web or Outlook:

Open your Sent folder and select the original message.
If you're using Outlook on the web, select the group name located on the To or CC line. If you're using Outlook, double-click the group name located on the To or CC line.
In Outlook on the web, from the pop-up dialog box, choose Owner. In Outlook, choose Contact. The owner's name is listed under Owner.

The owner of the group may have intentionally chosen to restrict who can send messages to it, and they may not want to adjust the existing restriction. In this case, you'll have to contact the group members by some other means, such as sending an email message to their individual email addresses or contacting them by phone.

    Status code: 550 5.7.133

This error occurs when the distribution group, security group, or Office 365 group is configured to accept messages only from authenticated senders (senders in the same organization or those added to the group's allowed senders list).

To fix the issue, the recipient's email admin or the group owner must add the sender's email address to the group's allowed senders list or change the group's delivery management setting to accept messages from senders inside and outside of the organization.

Usually this issue can only be fixed by the recipient's email admin or the group owner.

For more information and steps to fix this error, see Fix email delivery issues for error code 5.7.133 in Office 365.

Are we whipping a dead horse here, or a dead cow? Because nobody whips a dead cow. It just doesn't make sense to whip a dead cow.

Thank you so much for the reply, Scott!
Sorry if I came off as being a pest, but I really believe this forum could be a tremendous tool to all the members. I'm still amazed at how far the technology has come since my last active membership.
Another thing to consider, while I have your ear, would be a volunteer staff of moderators helping cover the areas they excel in. I lent a hand once on a forum in a volunteer capacity, mostly soil science, and it was not much of a burden (lots of free staffing, no overtime :D ).
I'm looking forward to seeing this progress; feel free to contact me.

Good Morning Mike - the webstaff@gcsaa.org email address should once again allow you to contact the web staff if you have any questions. In addition, you should now also be able to request email alerts. Thanks again for bringing these issues to our attention and I will pass along your idea of having a panel of experts/moderators, although I think that members like yourself, do a great job of passing along proven solution to various challenges.
